Naomi "Omi" Wise: Her Life, Death, & Legend
Local Randolph County authors Hal E. Pugh and Eleanor Minnock-Pugh will be at the Asheboro Public Library on Saturday, February 4th at 10am. Drowned by her lover in the waters of NC's Deep River in 1807, Naomi Wise has been in remembered in ballad and story for well over 200 years. Mistakes, randomization, and mis-remembering have been injected into Naomi's story over time, blurring the line between reality and fiction. This book sheds light on the plight of impoverished women in early America and in the inner workings of the Piedmont NC Quaker community that cared for Naomi and her daughter. Book will be available for purchase at the program. Cash or check is accepted.
