Double-Header Musical Extravaganza at Brightside Gallery

Brightside Gallery, 170 Worth Street, Asheboro, NC, hosts its final "Front Porch Evening" of the season on September 15, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a double-header musical blow out on the front porch provided by The Goodtimers for the first half of the evening and Ralph Davis & Co. for the second half of the evening! This talent-filled event is FREE and open to the public. For well over a decade, The Goodtimers of Asheboro have been crisscrossing the Piedmont, bringing their own brand of musical entertainment to the people. Playing R and B, country, rock, folk, gospel, Celtic, cowboy, girl-group pop and all the crossover possibilities there-in, with the goal of giving each song everything they’ve got and having maximum fun doing it. The band consists of Renette Cranford, mandolin and vocals; Brenda Daniel, vocals; Buddy George, guitar and vocals; Richard Johnson, guitar and vocals, and last but not least, Jim McCleary, vocals and comic mayhem. Ralph Davis is an Asheboro native who has been playing music since 1968. He's played in music groups and projects since about 1976 and has been doing local venues, mostly, and basically flying under the radar of the music scene in Randolph County. RD&Co. began about six years ago as a dare in a hotel bistro when I wanted their lounge guitarist to play a request and he told me to come up and do it myself. That planted the seed for an act that would allow me to get up by myself and play what I want and how I want to play it. I have since added a lot of techie gadgets and devices to essentially emulate a whole group, in effect becoming a true one-man band. I grew up listening to the great songs from the 70's and 80's and while I incorporate many different styles of music in my repertoire, I like playing the radio classics best, as it allows listeners to enjoy music that they are familiar with whenever they see one of my performances. And the fun part of my act is coming up with an "unplugged" version of songs that were not written for acoustic guitars, per se. Hence my act's catchphrase is "an acoustical quest to keep the great music alive..."
